Trust & security
What we do, what we don't, and how we keep your data safe.
Transparency is the foundation of trust. Here's exactly what Mutual Terms is, what it isn't, and how we handle your information.
What Mutual Terms is
A guided Texas planning workflow
We walk Texas couples through a structured prenup workflow with plain-language options, side-by-side comparison, and clear explanation steps.
A deterministic beta assembly system
We generate a deterministic Texas preview document from your saved inputs using the owner-approved Texas beta corpus and its narrowed conditions.
A platform for both partners
Both of you use the same platform — each with private sections and shared decisions — so the process feels balanced and fair.
A starting point, not the finish line
You can use the preview to understand your decisions and prepare for optional independent attorney review before signing.
What Mutual Terms is not
Not a law firm
We do not provide legal advice, legal opinions, or legal representation. We are a technology platform.
Not a replacement for an attorney
This product does not replace legal counsel. Optional independent attorney review is still recommended before any real drafting or signing.
Not an AI lawyer
Our plain-language explanations are generated to help you understand concepts, not to provide legal counsel. They are guidance, not advice.
Not live outside Texas
Texas is the only live state path in the current limited beta. Any non-Texas state content is educational only.
Not suitable for every situation
If your financial situation is complex, we'll tell you upfront — and we'll recommend working with an attorney instead.
How we protect your information
Encrypted application data
Sensitive application data is encrypted before database storage, and the deployed app is served over HTTPS. We avoid stronger security claims here unless the current system and operating posture support them directly.
Private by default inside the product
Each partner's raw financial disclosure stays private inside their own account experience. Shared comparison and preview steps use the structured choices you resolve together rather than showing your partner every raw number.
Limited provider processing
We do not sell customer financial disclosures. During the limited beta, infrastructure, payment, email, and AI providers may still process limited data needed to run the service.
Manual beta data handling
Self-serve export, deletion, and retention controls are not live yet. During the beta, data-handling requests are handled manually and case by case, and public policy commitments remain intentionally narrow.
Current beta operating posture
Support posture
Support is still handled manually during the limited beta. No public response-time commitment or staffed support channel is being promised yet.
Retention posture
We have not published a fixed public retention schedule yet. Retention and cleanup are being formalized as part of the beta hardening work.
Billing posture
Stripe test-mode proof exists in the product, but the public site is still preview-first. Refund, billing, and live-money policies will be published before any broader launch.
Corpus posture
The live Texas preview now uses the owner-approved Texas beta corpus with conditions. It remains narrowed in scope and is not being presented as broad launch-approved drafting outside the supported beta families.
How we use AI
Mutual Terms uses AI in limited, clearly-labeled ways to help you understand the process:
- Explaining legal concepts in plain language
- Summarizing the differences between options
- Helping you understand what information is being asked for
AI-generated explanations are always labeled and always include a note that they are general guidance, not legal advice. You can always continue without using them.
